Susan Marie Tatley was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. She spent most of her summers as a child on Waldron Island, in the San Juan Islands, where she developed a deep connection with nature. Waldron is a remote Island, with no electricity or ferry service, so her summers were simple and rustic. Growing up in a creative home, Susan developed a free and natural relationship with art. As a child, Susan studied dance and gymnastics; as a teenager, she studied both jazz voice under Joni Metcalf and jazz guitar at the Al Turay studio in Seattle, performing at various venues around the city. Her father was a freelance photographer for The Seattle Times, and a commercial painter, specializing in decorative finishes. Susan was fascinated watching him masterfully mix colors, giving her, her love of color. Her mother is gifted in design. Susan developed her own unique style. The influences of nature, music, photography, dance and color are all seen in her work today. Susan works mostly with acrylic and digital painting. In the late 1990's Susan sold many paintings in the Seattle area, including commissions, and is a published greeting card artist for GDC, Inc, with her work being sold in Macys. She has lived in San Francisco, CA, and Hawaii. She recently spent several months in Bath, England. Currently she has two homes; one in Florida, and the other in Kansas City, Missouri. Her Florida home is situated within a nature conservancy, bringing Susan the strong connection to nature she enjoyed as a child. Kansas City brings her, her love of jazz, entertainment, architecture and art.
